Under Water Creature: Half Fish-Half Human

People say that ocean keep so many beautiful yet unique creatures. The darkness of the ocean keeps their beauties untouchable by the human on the land. Their unique appearance, shape, and also behavior somehow doesn’t make human feel safe around them. One of the underwater creatures that are known for its beauty which also belongs to mythological creatures are mermaid and siren. Mermaid and siren are known as mythological underwater creatures. You can see their appearance in Disney movie The Little Mermaid and Pirates of Caribbean. Even though they look similar as a human (mostly woman) who has half body as fish, but they do have some differences. Mermaid, as its appearance in The Little Mermaid portrait as a beautiful and kind creature. She always curious about human and willing to help them. However, siren portrait as an evil creature who like to seduce the men and sink them down to the sea. As mention in diaryofanaspiringloser, “The main difference between sirens and mermaids is that sirens are usually depicted as evil temptress’ that lure sailors to their deaths, while mermaids are usually depicted as peaceful, non-violent creatures that try to live their lives away from human interference.”

In the meantime, Greek mythology depicted siren not as half-human and half-fish. According to Greek mythology siren appear as a human body combine with bird. We can see it from the early Greek art which shown siren as a bird that has a big woman’ head. Even though that it has different appearance, but Greek mythology still believe that siren is evil and dangerous creature, because they lured nearby sailors with their enchanting music and singing voices to shipwreck on the rocky coast of their island.

In conclusion, Mermaid and sirens both are known as half human and half fish which has different behavior. As angel and devil, mermaid portrait as the angel and sirens portrait as the devil. Despite all of those, I believe the underwater creatures are beautiful with their untouchability.
